Shine is a self-care app that lets users read motivational text messages and articles, helps them practice gratitude and "check in" for the day, offers self-improvement audio tracks created by experts and helps users deal with the stresses of everyday life.
Building an app with the functionality of sharing texts, articles, empowering audio tracks, and more with users.
Creating the daily check-in feature, which allows users to summarise the positive aspects of their day.
A tight deadline between the start of development and the launch.
Shine is a lifestyle product: it helps people under a lot of stress get through their lives. Once a day, users get the "Daily Shine Text". They can also "check in" and log something they’re grateful for. It all takes places as a friendly chat, creating the illusion of a “friend in your pocket”. Users can also listen to tracks on different aspects of life, e.g. love, friendships, or work.
Since it was launched in December, we have been introducing new functionalities and fixing bugs.
We are responsible for mobile development and design. We chose React Native in order to be able to build an Android app on the basis of the iOS version later on.
The Daily Shine Text functionality offers empowering information with a link to a related article and check-ins for a positive recap of the day.
Shine helps users relax and build their self-esteem. Some of the available tracks have been made by the influencers that the Shine team collaborates with, e.g. the singer MILCK and star of Netflix’s Queer Eye, Karamo Brown Some tracks, the check-in, and the Daily Shine Text functionalities are free to help new users try out Shine. The full subscription is quite popular. Appreciated by the paying users and the App Store in general, the app brings in significant revenue.
The app has been successful on the American market, where there is a need for empowerment and motivation products.
Shine resonates strongly with the stressed-out and drained working women.
The app is beautifully designed and has been featured as the App Store’s “Best of 2018.”
