Delivery Hero is one of the world’s leading local delivery platforms, operating in around 70 countries under multiple brands including Woowa, foodpanda, foodora, Yemeksepeti, talabat, HungerStation, PedidosYa, and Glovo. The company connects millions of customers with restaurants, grocery stores, and other partners, while continuously evolving its platform to power seamless experiences for users and businesses worldwide.

Challenge

As a dynamically scaling, multi-brand business, Delivery Hero needed a reliable partner capable of providing high-quality talent on demand across multiple technologies and functions.

Operating at global scale meant that teams in Berlin – responsible for core products powering brands in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East – needed to be able to scale rapidly, experiment safely, and access specialized expertise without the delays of traditional recruitment cycles.

Netguru has been supporting Delivery Hero since 2019 through a long-term team extension partnership.

Over the years, more than 150 experts have contributed to Delivery Hero’s ecosystem, covering a wide spectrum of technologies and roles.

At its peak, Netguru supported Delivery Hero with 20–30 professionals simultaneously. Today, the team consists of a dozen experts, embedded in core product teams in Berlin.

The collaboration evolved from providing engineering support to also including product design and design system expertise, reflecting a growing trust and strategic alignment between the two companies.

Netguru’s experts have helped expand Delivery Hero’s capabilities across:

  • backend development (Go, Python, Java, iOS, Android, ML Engineers)
  • frontend development (React, JavaScript)
  • data and analytics (Python, data engineering, dashboards)
  • product design and design systems
  • quality assurance and performance optimization

This flexible setup enables Delivery Hero to source the right mix of skills — sometimes within days — while maintaining consistent delivery quality and technical standards.

Netguru engineers contribute to Delivery Hero’s central product teams that build shared functionalities used across multiple brands and regions.

These include:

  • self-onboarding systems enabling local brands like HungerStation, talabat, and foodpanda to onboard partners autonomously
  • core service APIs and infrastructure that support scalable, localized deployments
  • performance and reliability improvements for high-traffic components used by millions of users daily

This shared-core approach allows Delivery Hero to roll out updates faster, maintain consistency across markets, and reduce duplicated engineering effort.

Delivery Hero’s engineering directors often rely on Netguru talent to prototype and validate new initiatives, thus maintaining flexibility.

These experimental projects allow Delivery Hero to test new features, architectures, or internal tools – using Netguru’s engineers to accelerate discovery and minimize risk.

Netguru’s data analysts and engineers contribute to analytics pipelines and reporting tools that support performance monitoring, forecasting, business intelligence, and operational insights across brands.

By strengthening Delivery Hero’s data infrastructure, the teams helped ensure product decisions are backed by real-time insights and reliable metrics.

4. Design system collaboration

The partnership has expanded beyond engineering to include close design collaboration. Three Netguru designers joined Delivery Hero’s core design organization in Berlin to evolve its global design system.

Delivery Hero’s ecosystem spans many products beyond customer apps, including centrally managed Help Centers. Through an advanced theming system, these Help Centers seamlessly integrate into each app while preserving brand consistency.

Netguru’s contributions included maintaining and extending theme and asset libraries, improving collaboration between the central and local design teams (e.g., Glovo, talabat), reducing design token bundle size, enhancing accessibility toward full WCAG compliance, and strengthening the system’s robustness to meet Help Center needs across products.
