8 examples of highly-successful Angular apps

Recently, Angular app development has been proving to be a trusted option for organizations looking to deploy performant and easy to use web and hybrid applications.

In this article, we’ll be looking at eight Angular apps built by reputable companies with large populations of consumers.

What Is Angular?

Modern websites rely heavily on a programming language called JavaScript (JS) to provide many of the interactive features that users have become familiar with. To construct such features and keep their online assets running smoothly, web developers typically rely on a client-side JavaScript framework – a technology providing the tools to build a web application, while also defining how it should be designed, and how the underlying code should be organized.

Developed by the Google corporation in 2010, the JavaScript framework known as AngularJS introduced many powerful features allowing developers to easily create rich, single-page applications. But with time and the changing demands of users, AngularJS began to show its age and limitations.

A revamped version of the platform known as Angular 2 was published in 2016, with one of its main features being the ability to develop applications for multiple platforms, including native desktop, web, and mobile (a feature that was notably lacking in AngularJS).

What Makes Angular Development So Good?

  • The Angular development environment enables developers to use modern web platform capabilities to deliver app-like experiences in the form of Progressive Web Apps.
  • Angular tools allow developers to reuse their code and build features quickly with simple templates.
  • As well as choosing from a wide array of existing components, developers can extend the template language with their own components.

Some Interesting Facts About Angular

The Angular development framework is considered ten times faster than its ancestor AngularJS and is implemented and maintained by the tech giant Google Inc.

The idea of Angular is actually unique. Nobody else uses this particular approach. Unlike other frameworks, Angular is a “next-generation” platform, designed to work with every other development tool.

Though the framework provides simplicity of use, it also features a number of sophisticated and powerful building blocks such as Router, Dependency Injection, Data-Binding, and TypeScript.

Superpowers And Benefits Of Angular Apps And Development

Besides its multi-platform capabilities, Angular offers businesses a tried and tested framework that, according to the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2019, employs one of three of the most used languages in the development world.

Angular development also includes support for Progressive Web Apps (PWA), a new software development method which combines the features offered by most modern web browsers with the benefits of the mobile experience.

Angular App Development In Practice

Major corporations have been using Angular to create apps, many of which now household names. Here are eight examples that you may have heard of.

Developed by Google (the company that created Angular and continues to support it) and launched in 2004, Gmail has a subscriber base of over 1.4 billion people and is the most widely used free email service. Gmail currently supports 105 different languages.

YouTube TV

Created with Angular 2 and launched in 2017, YouTube TV is Google’s alternative to AT&T TV Now and Hulu + Live TV, offering affordable basic access to a myriad of live programming. The service is available on Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, Roku OS, and Xbox One. It also works with smart televisions from market leaders like LG and Samsung.

The YouTube TV Cloud DVR offering lets you record as much content as you want, which can be stored for up to nine months, putting an end to the storage limits that most competitors impose.

Microsoft Office

Home of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, this one really needs no introduction. Microsoft Office Online gives you free access to all of these, in addition to OneNote, a dedicated online calendar, and OneDrive, which is a free online storage service. Subscribers to Microsoft Office 365 get the latest Office apps - both desktop and online versions - with updates available as soon as they happen.

Incidentally, Microsoft was responsible for developing TypeScript, which is a native language in Angular.

Xbox Live is Microsoft's online service for gaming and content distribution for the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One video game systems. The platform lets you play games against other people online, as well as download demos, trailers, and even full games from the Xbox Live Arcade.

Another product from the Microsoft stable, Mixer is a free video game streaming website and service. There are two official Mixer apps available for iOS and Android devices. You can use the main Mixer app for viewing other streamers' broadcasts, commenting on streams, initiating co-hosting from your own channel, and for receiving alerts when channels you follow go live. The Mixer Create app is used for broadcasting content to the Mixer streaming service from a smartphone or tablet.

The main competitor of Amazon's popular Twitch streaming service, Mixer is building an audience with huge names in the gaming industry such as Ninja, who is the most followed streamer worldwide.
