Keto-Mojo is a global provider of medical-grade blood glucose and ketone testing solutions. Its ecosystem combines connected meters, mobile and web applications, and data analytics to support individuals following ketogenic diets as well as healthcare professionals using ketogenic therapies in clinical practice.

Challenge

As Keto-Mojo’s user base and product portfolio grew, the company faced a set of challenges typical for connected medical devices:

• unstable Bluetooth connectivity between meters and mobile apps, leading to poor user experience and negative app reviews
• a legacy React Native mobile application that limited performance, scalability, and further development
• the need to securely process and store Protected Health Information (PHI) while remaining HIPAA compliant
• limited in-house capacity to maintain and evolve a complex, multi-platform ecosystem
• growing demand for partner integrations, healthcare professional access, and monetization through digital channels

To address these challenges, Keto-Mojo needed a trusted technology partner capable of taking ownership of the entire development roadmap, improving connectivity reliability, and ensuring long-term scalability and security.

Collaboration overview

Netguru began collaborating with Keto-Mojo in 2019, initially by taking over development and maintenance of the existing mobile application and backend.

Over time, this partnership evolved into a multi-year strategic collaboration, with Netguru handling the full product roadmap across mobile, backend, web, SDK, cybersecurity, and e-commerce.

The collaboration included:

• stabilization and improvement of a legacy React Native mobile app
• development of new native iOS and Android applications
• backend development and data processing
• web application development for users and healthcare professionals
• SDK development for meter connectivity with partner platforms
• cybersecurity strategy, audits, and penetration testing
• development and maintenance support for the website (WordPress) and e-commerce platform (Shopify)

Over nearly five years, Netguru provided a cross-functional team including iOS and Android developers, React Native engineers, backend engineers, frontend React developers, designers, DevOps engineers, product managers, project managers, and cybersecurity specialists.

This setup ensured continuity, deep domain knowledge, and scalable expertise on demand.

Scope of work

Legacy mobile app stabilization

The initial phase focused on Keto-Mojo Classic, a React Native mobile app for iOS and Android that suffered from poor Bluetooth connectivity, performance issues, and declining store ratings.

Netguru took over development and maintenance, delivering:

• improvements to Bluetooth synchronization reliability
• performance optimizations and bug fixes
• UX refinements based on user feedback
• stabilization that significantly improved App Store and Google Play reviews

In parallel, we supported the planning and execution of a controlled sunsetting strategy, allowing Keto-Mojo to migrate users safely to a new solution. Although the Classic app is no longer available in stores, it is still actively used, demonstrating the stability achieved.

Native mobile app development

In 2021, Netguru began developing native iOS and Android applications to fully replace the legacy solution.

The primary goal was to deliver rock-solid Bluetooth connectivity, as syncing readings from ketone and glucose meters is the most critical user flow.

The mobile apps enable users to:

• synchronize meter readings seamlessly
• store and analyze glucose, ketone, and GKI data
• visualize trends through charts and graphs
• access educational content supporting long-term engagement
• redirect to Shopify for purchasing meters and strips

The apps significantly improved performance, stability, and user trust.

Web application for users and healthcare professionals

Netguru developed the MyMojo Health web application, expanding access to health data beyond mobile devices.

Users and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) can:

• track glucose, ketone, and other health metrics, including TSH, insulin, HDL/LDL, potassium, and more
• monitor sleep through integrations with Oura and Apple Health
• visualize trends over time to support ketogenic therapy in clinical practice

This opened new professional and clinical use cases for Keto-Mojo’s ecosystem.

SDK development for partners

To support partnerships, Netguru developed a custom SDK for meter connectivity, enabling partner platforms to integrate Keto-Mojo meters without rebuilding Bluetooth logic.

The SDK allows partners to:

• seamlessly integrate meters into their ecosystems
• receive on-demand updates safely
• maintain high performance and data integrity

Backend, security & digital platforms

Netguru built and maintained Keto-Mojo’s Python-based backend, powering the ecosystem with secure, high-performance, and scalable infrastructure. The team also supported website and e-commerce platforms, including WordPress for marketing and Shopify for online sales.

Netguru delivered:

• reliable data ingestion, computation, and analysis
• HIPAA-compliant security with regular audits and vulnerability management
• seamless website and e-commerce operations through a single trusted partner
